About us

Meifod is a village on the A495, in the Vyrnwy valley. It is seven miles north-west of Welshpool, and six miles from Llanfyllin.

Meifod Local History Group is an active group in the village, with a regular annual programme of talks and summer visits. We carry out research for specific projects, and, for example, in 2014 put on an exhibition and weekend of events to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1, and prepared a display entitled Meifod: 1952-2022 as part of the village's celebration of the late Queen's platinum jubilee. (More details about these and other projects can be found under Exhibitions and Local Research.) We have also begun an oral history project (Meifod Voices).

We have seven talks a year, held in Meifod Village Hall, plus two summer visits to places of local interest, and a social evening in December. The talks are open to both members and non-members, but the visits and social evening are for members only.

Meetings are usually held on the third Thursday in the month, and start at 7.30pm.

Talks are held in Meifod Village Hall (SY22 6DF) and there is plenty of parking space at the Hall.

Membership of the group costs £10 a year, and membership runs for a year from the date of joining. You can join at any meeting by filling in a simple form.

Talks are free for members, and £4 for non-members.

Free refreshments are provided, and we have a refreshment break part way through our meetings in the Village Hall, which gives people a chance to chat and socialise.

If you have questions, or want more information, or would like a printed copy of our current programme, please contact the group’s secretary, Frances Ward:
